The Board of Trustees for Equation Charity announce the appointment of Sharon Williams, who joined us as incoming CEO on 3rd May 2022

Established in 1989, Equation works across communities to reduce the impact of domestic abuse and sexual violence. From delivering prevention work in schools teaching children about healthy relationships; providing specialist training for professionals; creating awareness-raising campaigns; to frontline work supporting male survivors – Equation has been a driving force in this sector for over 30 years.

As the previous CEO of the John Eastwood Hospice Trust and Head of Service Improvement at Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Sharon brings extensive skills and a wealth of experience to the role. The Equation team welcomes her and looks forward to her leading the continuation of their essential work with ambition and pride.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team at Equation and working with organisations who are so committed to eradicating domestic and sexual abuse”, says Sharon. “Our right to equitable and equal relationships in society is at the forefront of my values, so I look forward to collaborating with partners to build on the successes that Equation has achieved to date.  Now more than ever I believe there is greater opportunity to influence change, and I’m excited to be joining the team at the start of this next phase”.

Sharon will initially be focused on building relationships with the internal Equation team, our partners in the community, and our funders. We will also be reviewing and developing the Equation strategy this year and she will have a central role in this work. Sharon succeeds Anna Clark who after an incredibly successful tenure as Equation’s CEO for the past six years, announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the organisation to focus on family. Anna will support Sharon for the first month before ultimately leaving the organisation at the end of May 2022, we are grateful to Anna for the expertise, drive, and passion that she has given to Equation over the years.

Trustee Kelly Bennaton states:

“We’re excited to welcome Sharon into the Equation team at a pivotal time for the charity. As public discourse around domestic abuse and sexual violence increases, Equation’s work promoting equal relationships has become ever important. Sharon’s values make her a perfect fit and she brings with her the knowledge and experience to drive us forward.”
