Nottingham Muslim Women’s Network (NMWN) is a trusted By and For organisation that supports Muslim women and girls in Nottingham. It provides culturally sensitive services, including domestic violence support, legal advice, and advocacy, delivered in multiple community languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Turkish, and Arabic.

NMWN bridges the gap between Muslim women and mainstream services, offering advice on abusive relationships, immigration, and Islamic divorces. The organisation also runs community initiatives such as This Girl Can, nutrition programmes, and active lifestyle projects like walks for women with gestational diabetes. Additional programmes include a culturally sensitive Freedom Programme in Urdu and a 12-week volunteer programme focused on community activism in domestic abuse, FGM, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and hate crime.

With increasing demand, NMWN handled 91 referrals between April and September 2024 and continues to empower women through tailored support, volunteer training, and advocacy.

Al-Hurraya

Al-Hurraya, are a peer-led ethnic minority service providing bespoke, personalized, culturally specific interventions to meet varying needs of individuals, their families and address social issues presented in the local communities of Nottingham and Derby. We utilise early interventions, education, counselling, mentoring and empowerment at Al-Hurraya to support those facing a range of disadvantages including hidden harm, addiction, involvement in crime, gangs, radicalization, domestic and sexual violence, and trauma.

Al-Hurraya was established in 2014, our founder Asad Fazil MBE identified a clear gap in service provision for those requiring support services that valued and considered clients’ unique cultural and religious backgrounds and contexts. Al-Hurraya was established to break down the barriers experienced by diverse communities to ensure no one felt excluded from accessing support. Al-Hurraya means freedom in Arabic, we want to help people live a life free from harm free from addiction, and free from trauma for the benefit of both the individual, their family and the wider community.
