Meet Michael – Equation’s County Safe Accommodation Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (Male Survivors)
Our Safer Accommodation and Outreach team help create safe spaces that someone can call home. This could be making a current home feel safer, or helping someone find somewhere else to live. We have a Men’s Specialist Practitioner who understands domestic abuse, housing needs, and how the issues men face can be different to those faced by women.
Introduce yourself
Before Equation, I was doing the same job for 23 years. What I enjoy now in my role at Equation, is that I have a proper balance between my professional and personal life.
I enjoy knowing that what I am doing will stay, because I am improving someone’s life.
What’s it like working as part of the Equation team?
Working at Equation is – on a personal and professional level – an amazing experience that will help you grow as a person.
Everyone here is very supportive and non-judgemental. There is always a friendly face and a supportive ear to hear you when you need to speak about anything.
I think the Men’s Service is an amazing team and it’s such an honour to be part of it.
During my professional lifetime I am very happy to say that having Marie and Rachel as managers is the biggest blessing any employee could have. They are the most professional and supportive managers I’ve had.
What would you say to anyone thinking about working for Equation?
If you are looking for a role that will make a huge, positive difference – to yourself, the people around you, and society, then Equation is the right place to come.
How do you feel at the end of a working day?
Totally satisfied with what I have done. I could use a million words to express it, but I feel totally happy and satisfied that I have helped change someone else’s life for the better.
I really think that if you’re looking for purpose in your professional life, come to Equation because you will see there are so many things in the society worth fighting for.
