Domestic abuse in rural areas
Domestic abuse is a complex issue that happens in every community. However, for someone living in a rural area, there can be extra factors that contribute to the prevalence, whilst also making it more difficult to get support.
Research by the National Rural Crime Network has revealed that in rural Britain, there are hidden victims who are isolated, unsupported and unprotected.
That’s why we’ve created the Rural Abuse campaign – to raise awareness and improve access to support in rural areas of Nottinghamshire.
Free training for professionals and members of the public, in Bingham, Cotgrave and surrounding villages
We’re holding free, online training sessions, between June 2024 and February 2025 to improve community safety.
These training sessions are for people living, working and volunteering in Bingham, Cotgrave and surrounding villages.
Launch event: Domestic Abuse in Rural Areas

If you work, volunteer, have a business or run a faith or community group in Bingham and surrounding areas then come along and see how you can do this.
We are holding an event to launch our Domestic Abuse in Rural areas project which has been funded by the Office of the Police and Crime commissioner as part of the Make Notts Safe Fund.
The launch will give a short introduction about the project to workers, businesses and members of the community and give details of the training and promotional materials available in the coming months.
Domestic and Sexual Abuse Bystander and Community Training
The session gives an overview of domestic and sexual violence and abuse, how it is defined and identifies some simple ways that you can respond and support someone in the community who is impacted by domestic or sexual abuse.
Domestic Abuse in Rural Areas

This course is free and targeted at workers and volunteers working in Bingham and surrounding areas as part of work across Nottinghamshire to improve community safety.
This session will help you understand the nature of domestic abuse and the barriers that prevent those living in rural areas, from seeking help.
Learn about the specialist support available and how to signpost or refer someone to these. These sessions are part of our responding to domestic abuse in rural areas project.
During the session, specific reference is made to different types of domestic abuse, so we recommend attending in a quiet and confidential space. Support is available if you are impacted by any content if the session.
This project is funded by Make Notts Safe, from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
