J9 – Creating safe spaces in the community

December 5 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Free - £10.00
The J9 Domestic Abuse Initiative aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse and assist survivors to access support safely

Location: MS Teams

This session is free to workers, volunteers, residents, businesses, faith and community organisations in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as part of work to improve community safety.

J9 Domestic Abuse Initiative:

Funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), the J9 Domestic Abuse Initiative is designed to raise awareness of domestic abuse and provide safe, accessible support for those affected.

We are offering a free 90-minute J9 training session for organisations and individuals in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This training aims to create a community-focused approach to domestic abuse support, helping local businesses and community venues become safe spaces for individuals seeking help.

Our training covers how to recognise and respond to domestic abuse and promote confidence in signposting someone to specialist support.

Once the training is completed, your organisation will be provided with free J9 resources to display. These will let anyone experiencing abuse know they can discreetly and safely, get information and use a phone to contact a support service.

Why become a J9 space?

  • Training is free for organisations in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
  • Quick and convenient – sessions are just 90 minutes and can be held online or in person – we can even come to you
  • Be part of a nationwide response against violence and abuse
  • Enhance your staff training

What you’ll gain

  • Increase awareness and understanding of what domestic abuse is
  • Confidence to hold sensitive conversations and ask the right questions
  • Knowledge about support options available
  • Understanding of how to create a safe space in your business

The training is the most effective if most or all staff in an organisation attend to ensure the best all-round support for the community, however you are welcome to attend to become a J9 Ambassador.

J9 Ambassador:

Any individual in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire who has completed the J9 training will receive a J9 badge and training resources. They will be able to offer support to those experiencing domestic abuse in line with the J9 training and should advocate for their place of work to become a J9 safe space if it is not already.

J9 Safe Space:

For an organisation or business to become a J9 safe space (and receive the J9 branded stickers, posters, and other resources) they must:

  • Have agreement to become a J9 safe space from the CEO/business owner or equivalent
  • Have at least 1 senior level staff member attend the J9 training and become an ambassador
  • Have the majority (all or most) of their public facing staff attend the J9 training to become a J9 ambassador [this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis with the J9 project coordinator]

During the session, specific reference is made to different types of domestic abuse, so we recommend attending in a quiet and confidential space. Support is available if you are impacted by any content if the session.
