Working with, Supporting and Referring LGBTQ+ Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Duration: 1.5 hours

Aim:

To improve understanding of LGBTQ+ survivor experiences and offer practical advice on support and local provisions.

Learning points:

• Overview of LGBTQ+ identities, gender identities and romantic/sexual identities
• Exploration of domestic abuse in the LGBTQ+ population
• Risk assessments, referrals and local provisions for LGBTQ+ survivors
• Additional barriers for LGBTQ+ survivors
• Best practice recommendations when working with LGBTQ+ survivors

This seminar will be delivered by Equation’s Safe Accommodation & Outreach Service Manager / LGBTQ+ Specialist IDVA. Equation offer the only local service in Nottinghamshire which provides support for survivors from LGBTQ+ specialist domestic abuse workers. This service includes IDVAs, support for survivors at risk of homelessness due to domestic abuse, and a helpline.
