Domestic abuse in rural areas
Domestic abuse is a complex issue that affects communities everywhere. However, for those living in rural areas, additional factors can contribute to its occurrence and make it more challenging to access support.
Research by the National Rural Crime Network has revealed that in rural Britain, there are hidden victims who are isolated, unsupported and unprotected.
That’s why we’ve created the Rural Domestic Abuse campaign – to raise awareness and improve access to support in rural areas of Nottinghamshire.

Free training for professionals and members of the public, in Bingham, Cotgrave and surrounding villages
We’re holding free, online training sessions until March 2025 to improve community safety.
These training sessions are for people living, working and volunteering in Bingham, Cotgrave and surrounding villages.
Understanding and Responding to Domestic Violence and Abuse
An introductory session for anyone who might come into contact with a person experiencing domestic abuse in their work or volunteer role. This session will help you build a toolkit of information and strategies to use in your workplace.
Domestic Abuse in Rural Areas
This session will help you understand the nature of domestic abuse and the barriers that prevent those living in rural areas, from seeking help.
Learn about the specialist support available and how to signpost or refer someone. These sessions are part of our responding to domestic abuse in rural areas project.
During the session, specific reference is made to different types of domestic abuse, so we recommend attending in a quiet and confidential space. Support is available if you are impacted by any content if the session.
How Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse use Technology
Learn how perpetrators use everyday tech in their abuse and the impact on survivors during different parts of a relationship – before leaving, during escape, and in life apart. Learn how it impacts the person experiencing it, how to spot it, and tools available to help prevent it.
Domestic and Sexual Abuse Bystander and Community Training
Do you want to increase your knowledge of how to support people experiencing domestic abuse in your community?
This session gives an overview of domestic and sexual violence and abuse, how it is defined and identifies some simple ways that you can respond and support someone in the community who is impacted by domestic or sexual abuse.

Free training arranged around you
J9 – Creating safe space in the community
Any business, community venue or organisation can create a J9 safe space. Our free 90 minute training covers how to spot signs of domestic abuse and feel confident in signposting someone to get help and support.
Following training, you’ll receive resources to display along with the J9 logo. This lets people experiencing abuse know you are a safe place to get information and use a telephone to contact support services.
- 90 minutes – available virtually or face to face at your business
- part of a nationwide response to domestic violence and abuse
- most effective when all or most of your staff attend the training
