This May, Reel Equality Film Club will be returning to a screen near you, with a bang. Our film of choice – Promising Young Woman.

A breath-taking debut from female director Emerald Fennel, Reel Equality is delighted to present what the Guardian has referred to as a ‘deathly dark satire of gender politics’. Promising Young Woman is a film like no other. As the name suggests, the narrative highlights the lasting damage sexual violence can have on Promising Young Women, and presents a sound case that society at large should concern themselves with this, more than the damage that ‘allegations’  and convictions on Promising Young Men who choose to perpetrate abuse and jeopardise their own futures as a result.

Our first screening since the pandemic, we’re excited to return with to a screen in Nottingham with such deserving film. It will be an event to remember which celebrates this one of a kind film, work taking place in Notts to keep women safe at night. Expect to see societal attitudes that underpin Violence Against Women and Girls firmly challenged.

Trigger Warning – This film contains scenes of violence against women and girls that some viewers may find distressing. Viewer discretion is advised.
