Pet fostering
Worried about your pet if you leave an abusive home? Our pet fostering service keeps your pet safe with a volunteer carer while you take the next step, for as long as you need. We support people aged 16+ living in Nottingham city, and 18+ elsewhere in Nottinghamshire.
Who it’s for
This service is for men experiencing domestic abuse who are worried about what will happen to their pet if they leave, or if they stay. It’s available for men and LGBTQ+ people across the whole of Nottinghamshire.

What to expect
Your pet is placed with a volunteer foster carer, who looks after them in their own home. They’ll stay there for as long as needed, and come back to you once it’s safe. The service is free and completely confidential.

What pets can be fostered?
Pretty much any. Get in touch with us to see if we can help.
Is there a cost to the service?
Our service is usually free, so you can get support for your pet without worrying about the cost.
You’ll normally continue to pay your usual pet-related costs, such as food and vet bills. If there are any additional costs, we’ll always explain these to you clearly beforehand.
Can I get updates about my pet while we’re apart?
Yes updates are normally provided with letters and photos, unless there are any particular safety or logistical reasons why this can’t happen, but we can talk this through with you.
I’m a professional — can I refer someone on their behalf?
Yes. Complete our referral form or contact our helpline directly, with as much or as little detail as you’re able to share.
How long can my pet stay in foster care?
Foster care can range from days to months, depending on your needs and the availability of foster care. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss.
Who looks after my pet while I’m apart?
A trained volunteer foster carer, who looks after your pet in their own home until it’s safe to come back to you.
