Frequently asked questions
We know reaching out can feel like a big step. Here are answers to some questions you might have.
What happens when I get in touch or make a referral?
We’ll get back to you within 48 hours. Someone from our team will talk things through with you, in a confidential and non-judgemental way, and agree what happens next with you or the person you’re supporting.
Can I get advice without making a formal referral?
Yes, absolutely. You don’t need to refer someone just to get support. Contact us for guidance on a situation, and we’ll help you think through what to do next.
Do you only support women?
No. We support everyone experiencing domestic abuse, including men and lgbtq+ people, and we run a dedicated programme for people who are worried about their own behaviour.
Is training only available to domestic abuse specialists?
Not at all. Our foundation courses are a starting point for anyone who might come into contact with someone experiencing domestic abuse in their work or volunteer role, whatever your sector.
Do I need the person’s consent before I refer them?
Wherever possible, yes – it’s best to talk it through with them first. Worried about someone’s immediate safety and can’t get consent? Just contact us and we’ll help you work out the best way forward.
What if I’m not sure it’s domestic abuse?
That’s completely fine – you don’t need to be certain. If something doesn’t feel right, get in touch and we’ll help you make sense of what you’re seeing.
Is your support only available in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire?
Our direct support services are for people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, but we deliver training and resources to professionals right across the country.
Is there a cost for training?
Training is free for workers and volunteers in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. If you’re based outside this area, there’s a charge – get in touch and we’ll talk you through the details.
