FAQS: Questions people often ask us
Thinking about reaching out can bring up a lot of questions. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most — about our helpline, support for men and LGBTQ+ survivors, worrying about your own behaviour, and sexual assault. If your question isn’t here, you can still get in touch.
Is your helpline LGBTQ+ inclusive?
Our helpline is here for LGBTQ+ people experiencing domestic abuse. Our team are fully trained, compassionate, and confidential, whatever your identity or relationship type.
Do you support male survivors?
Yes. We support men aged 16 and over in Nottingham, or 18 and over in Nottinghamshire, experiencing abuse from a partner, ex, or family member.
Worried about your own behaviour?
Your Choice Project helps anyone who wants to stop using abusive behaviour towards a current or former partner or family member. It’s confidential and non-judgemental.
What counts as sexual assault?
Sexual assault is any sexual act carried out without consent, including rape, groping, or forced kissing. It can happen to anyone, of any age.
Can I get support anonymously?
You can share as much or as little as you like. Helpline support is led by you, at your own pace.
Is there a men’s helpline?
Yes — call 0800 995 6999. We’re here Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm excluding bank holidays (7.30pm on Wednesdays) – 24/7 confidential answerphone available outside these times.
Does our Your Choice Project affect survivor safety?
No. Our perpetrator work operates within a framework of safety checks, professional oversight, and accountability. It never reduces a survivor’s safety planning.
How do I get help for Sexual assault?
You can contact a Sexual Assault Referral Centre for medical, practical, and emotional support, or speak to our team for confidential advice. You may also wish to contact the police if you feel able to.
